I have a 2020 Farley 5 and tracked down a Mastodon EXT (my wrists and elbows are shot from 20 years of climbing). Trek says the max ATC is 513, and that the F5 frame is compatible with an 80mm Mastodon (what the Farley 7 comes with). From what I can tell, ATC on the 100mm Mastodon is 531 (but I'm not sure if this is calculated with 20% SAG).

Does that 20 mm make much difference? I've increased travel on bikes before by 20mm, and while it kind of tweaked with geometry, I didn't notice any substantial difference. I assume this won't make a huge difference, and it's not like I'm riding super difficult terrain. I've never gone from rigid to suspension though.

I've changed travel on forks before, so knocking it down to 80mm wouldn't be difficult, but...I live in Montana, it's finally getting cold out, and my garage doesn't have insulation or a heater. Bleh.

A friend of mine who owns a Farley 5 built a 29er wheelset for it for summer riding, but opted for a boost fork and front wheel since he already had the fork.

After some experimenting with fork travel, he found the sweet spot to be 130mm. I'm sure that 100mm will be just fine.

I've installed a 120mm Bluto on my rigid Cannondale Fatcaad, and I have zero regrets! The Bluto doesn't feel as nice as the Mastodon, but it's a lot lighter. I did end up going with a 20mm longer stem though since raising the front shortened the reach.

So far I haven't noticed much difference running at 100, so I think I will keep it here for now. Want to dink around on balloon tires during the summer anyways!
