Curious if anyone has had some time on the 2022 Element alloy version, and can give some general impressions.

Thx

Just seeing this thread. I actually started the same thread on MTBR and no responses either. I've been in the market for a Ripley AF and thinking the '22 Element alloy might be a good alternative. Nothing out there in terms of ride impression tho...other than the glowing pinkbike review of the carbon series. Must be very few out on the trails.

I'm thinking either the C30 or C50 and upgrading certain components.

I am writing some thoughts down on my A50 medium model. Hoping to turn it into a low-key review.

Thx Jubs! I look forward to it.

Jubs, or Anybody that has time on an alloy version have some thoughts they'd share. I'm certainly not a weight weenie, but Curious about it nonetheless. Looking for an alternative to my alloy sentinel for covering more miles.

Is it good for jumps? Yes it is! Felt really good on take offs but did bottom out way too easily. After slapping a 0.8cc token in there it jumped even better.

Its my First time on 29 wheels, and was not too hard to get used to. Steering was weird but that could also be the 50mm stem.
Parking lot cutties made me feel like the rear end or the wheel was flexing. I think this is a Rocky MTN thing, especially when looking at their cross country bikes.

One bonus of the alloy version was that I was able to fit a 27.5 tube in between the frame and cable routing near the BB. Had to really work it in there but it that has the benefit of it being very secure. Came in handy once already.

Seat post is ok, lever has good adjustability but I still don’t like it. I wish it could be matched to the brake clamp, or be 1cm shorter. It is uncomfortably close to scratching my thumb when riding. I'll replace it with another lever at some point. Carbon stem spacers?!? Wow good on you Rocky. Fox stuff is great and main reason I went with this model. The brakes are great even with Organic pads - I was impressed. The handle bars felt weird. I like the look of them and want to like them but I don't think they agree with my usual riding position.
Descending:
Corners
Rolly berms are fun because you slide around alot with the XC tires.
If you aggressively push into berms you can fly out of them as long as you have grip. However the frame and wheels flex noticeably and thats something I have not noticed in any bikes before.
Cornering in pavement is where I noticed the bike dived into the rear suspension more than my downhill or enduro bikes. It squatted pretty hard, like, 50% sag at that point.
Straight line
In the steeps it all comes down to the tires you are running and your brakes.
Gets grippier and grippier the more you push your heels down.
Not too twitchy for steeps! I rode the hardest steep chute i ever have with the most XC tires I have ever had and came out alive.
Tech
Chunks through just fine. Scary because of paper thin sidewalls. If you went with thicker more aggressive tires then Tech stuff would be comfortable.

I really want to try this bike with a carbon wheelset, carbon bar, & foam grips.

Thanks, Jubs! I'm sold on one! Now I just need to track down a large. Looking to find an a10 and swap all the parts from my honzo over. Should be similar to an a50 build, just with better wheels and oneup bars.

Miraculously, I found a large a10 at Jenson.
120mm sid fork
Sidluxe select+
800mm oneup bars
40mm anvl stem
Xt brakes
Oneup dropper remote
Stock rocky dropper
Ergon sm saddle
Complete gx drivetrain
I9 1/1 hubs
Stans flow mk4 rims
Dissector/ardent race 2.35
Candy 7 pedals
31.5#

A solid 5# lighter than my alloy sentinel with a coil, obviously it pedals way more efficiently, but certainly more work on long janky decents. So far, with a few shakedown rides it definitely seems like the bike I was hoping it would be, more of an all day New England trail bike.

I’m planning on building a custom alloy. Focusing on good brakes and suspension.

I have an XT drivetrain laying around.

My shop has a good relationship with Rocky Mountain. Hoping to get a frame only. Maybe no shock.
