Have a bike I actually bought off here well over a decade ago and can't remember if it is a 2000-2003 specialized demo or not but it came with manitou sherman forks.

Are they even worth spending the time fixing now or has the fork game changed so much I should just upgrade? The bike has 24 x 2.5 tires on it if it helps....if upgrade what would you recommend? I just freeride and trails nowadays.

Here is a couple pictures of the fork and the bike. If anyone could confirm what year bike I have and if it is a demo that would help too Lol. Is this fork the breakout? Memory aint what it used to be.

I would change the seals. Yes the fork game has changed but finding a suitable replacement isn't going to be cheap.

Get new seals & rebuild those. If you eventually find an affordable upgrade you can sell the sherman's as working & offset the cost of the new used upgrade.

I was doing some looking around and seen the entire fork selling for less than $100 every time. I think I will be upside down on these after the rebuild if I ever try to sell em. Looks like I just need to properly ID what kinda bike I have to search out a replacement.

That ad is a little old. Last one sold for$180 shipped on eBay. The fork it either 1-1/8 or 1.5" in diameter. You can measure the outside diameter of tube the stem clamps on to. That same tube, measure the length, you'll want at least that length in whatever diameter steerer tube you have.

Good luck with the hunt!
