Hi guys!
Working as a longtime bike mechanic I stumbled upon something I had not seen yet until now.
I recently had a bike in for a service and some gear tuning.
The bike was outfittet with a Sram GX Eagle shifter (12spd) paired with a Shimano XT 11spd derailleur on a 1x11 speed drive train. Looked to be a Shimano SLX cassette and crankset for 11 speed.
The thing is that it worked flawlessly. And from what I know Shimano and Sram doesn't have the same pull ratio on they're shifters so this was something new to me.
Has anyone else seen this combo?

Same pull ratio as far as I know. People have been doing this for years and has become more prevalent lately due to parts shortages.

I run an axs rear derailleur with XT chain and Cassette. Works pretty well, not as smooth as a full Shimano 12sp setup, but pretty close. Close enough I won’t be changing back until Shimano releases a wireless mountain drivetrain.

So it was an 11spd derailleur with the 12spd shifter?

Yes exactly, and that's what I found strange that it worked so well.
Mixed drivetrains usually works alright so that wasn't the issue in this case.

I did the exact opposite of this a few years back and had great success. Shimano 11-46 cassette and an xo eagle mech/shifter. Just limited out the lowest click and was all good till a new freehub came in!

This thread is awesome.

It inspired me to try a new xt 12 shifter with a New deore derailieur, and my old Gx 11 so 10-46 cassette.

I have a new wheel coming with a microspline hub, and I had the prt here waiting for it. The Sram derailieur on the bike was toast.

SonI put it all together with an sram xx1 chain with only a few hundred Km on it.

I had to add 3 links to the chain, but luckily I keep my old cut offs as key chains so it was only a quick link and good to go.

Works perfect. Only 1 ride in, but it cleared up the shifting problems I was having.

My real regret is that I didn’t try running the Gx 11 sp shifter with the deore 12 derailieur, and Gx cassette before doing the swap.
