does anyone know if a 1.5in tapered fork fit a 2009 giant STP 0 using a 1/1-8 to 1.5 external headset, I'm interested in this to broaden my options for forks but I want to confirm this before I buy all the parts

Yeah you absolutely can do this. you need an EC44 bottom headset cup.
I did it with my stp when i had it
