I'm looking to go from an 18' Smuggler to a current year Sentinel. Currently on an XL but now that XXL is available I'm considering that. I'm 6'5" and the Smuggler fits well and I seem to be in-between and XL and XXL on Transition's sizing scale. Any tall people have experience with XL vs XXL? Thanks!
I'm 6'2 with shoes so not super tall like you, but I also have an ape index of +7. I ended up buying an xl spire after sitting on L, XL, XXL to see how they all stacked up. Im super happy with the XL sizing. One thing to note since you're going from a previous gen smuggler to a new gen sentinel is the ETT measurements are quite short on the xl compared to the MY18 smuggler geo and steep seat angles. I notice with 800mm bars on particularly twisting, tech climbs my knees are pretty close to the bars but it's still comfortable. You'd be fine on the xxl I figure. However, another thing to consider is the xxl sentinel wheelbase is pretty mega, it's very similar to my spire xl sizing. Again, its fine but in slower trails it is definitely noticeable. Makes it more sluggish and takes a bit of fun out of less steep trails.
Still, having a bike that actually feels like it fits me makes it all worth it. I'd rather ride a bigger bike than a smaller more cramped one.

Thanks for perspective! I'm definitely leaning towards the XXL. I've ridden lots of XL bikes and it always seemed like I could use something just a little bigger.
I’m 6’5” as well, I went XL. Coming from an XXL Tallboy and Megatower, I wanted something a bit smaller. Both those bikes have really long top tubes while seated and I had to ride 35mm stems. They still felt uncomfortable climbing and short descending. Transition has much steeper seat tubes.
I’m 6’1” and am riding a XL Suppresser, it’s a throw up between going L or XL above 6’ with transition so best to try both and go for the size that fits the best in stack and reach for your build.
I went XL at like 6'3.5. Demoed an XXL too and I fit great on both, XXL felt slightly unwieldy on tight stuff and I don't need the extra wheelbase. At 6'5" I'd probably lean towards an XXL.
