Specialized tires are available for $40-$60. By comparison, tires from Maxxis, Schwalbe, etc. usually run at least $80 and often above $100. What gives? Are Specialized tires cheaply made and "you get what you pay for" or are the others overpriced?

Specialized tires are just a good deal. Maxxis are over priced, especially in North America and you can get them and many other brands for much less from the German online stores.

Second vote for Specialized tires. I run them on my hardtail and squishy trail bike, I honestly prefer them to the Maxxis they replaced. I got 2 full seasons out of my Salughter rear on the hardtail, including nearly 30 bikepark laps. They're very good tires.

I needed to replace my rear tire because it isn't gripping well under my weight (Maxis Rekon+ and I'm a light rider). I was looking at Specialized tires but couldn't determine which would be a good rear. Based on the recommendations of other 27.5+ riders I went with a Terrene McFly.

However, I'm still curious what a good Specialized rear tire for trail use in wet climates, sized 27.5+, would be. Maybe the Butcher?

Although intended as a front tire, I've used the Butcher as a rear and found it to be reasonably fast rolling and grippy, and it should do well in the wet. Mine was the older T7 compound and the newer T9 should be better.

I should mention my 2.6 on 35mm inner rim measured a little small.

Good to know ... I will look into that. I've got 40mm rims and they should work for 2.4-3.0 wide tires but yeah I don't wanna go too far off since I have a 2.8 on the front right now. Looks like they make a 2.8 Butcher though.
