I am thinking of going on a trip to Europe in June 2024. Possibly Les Gets or Saalbach region. Travelling from the UK.
I would like to take my own bike but don't want to risk loss/damage due to airlines or baggage handlers.
My option would then be to travel by road but I only have a small vehicle which wouldn't be the most practical thing to carry my bike, gear, passenger etc. I also don't really fancy driving.
I'm guessing that leaves me with the following:
1) Hire a larger vehicle (e.g. camper van) which can also carry a bike or two. 2) Find a company that specialises in such things. Possibly providing transport for both people and bikes.
For accommodation I'd be looking at self catered apartment (or similar) rather than camping.
Has anyone done something similar and can offer recommendations/advice.
I haven't tried this but, you described not wanting to drive so the logical choice seems like a public transportation. I think the train seems like the best option. have you looked at the Eurostar? Does it get you close enough? According to the internet Les Gets is 22 km from the Cluses train station. Seems like you could hop on a train with your bike, get off in Cluses and just ride into town or take a bus the last bit.
Good idea but I would be taking 2 bikes, tools, gear etc (should have mentioned that in my original thread).
I did consider taking a hire van on to the Eurotunnel which is a possible option. Still needs a drive but not as much as if I caught the ferry I think.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
