Thinking about fitting a Dhx on my Sentinel v2 carbon. I'm around 81kg (179lbs) kitted, what spring rate would you recommend?
Guy trying to sell me the shock is saying 350 (sls coil) and, considering conversations around here it seems pretty low. But he swears by it...
He arrived to that rate with the following calculation: he's dividing 150/65 (should be 62.5 but doesn't make much difference here) and then that result (2.4) is multiplied by my weight (81kg) and 1.8 (don't know where 1.8 comes from). So... 2.4x81x1.8=349 spring rate.
Does this make sense? I know that it's difficult to get it right at first time with coil shocks but if anything, I prefer to have it a bit harsher than to ride it with a huge sag and keep bottoming it out.
You can invest in a Sprindex coil so you can fine tune if you are unsure. But basic Fox springs are cheap any way so you can buy or borrow a couple to test.
im 160#lbs. did all the calculators. started with 375lb. dumb used almost all travel dropping off 10 inch curb. went to 450. pretty good but felt stiff. went to 400 good but a little sqwishy . ended up with 425# on fox dhx2.
