Hi all, I am currently looking to purchase my first emtb, approximately £5000 or under! However with so many variations, and different options of motors and battery capacity, I would be great full for a little advice. Thanks.

Not sure about the UK but I personally think the Marin Alpine Trail line is one of the most cost effective models out there right now.

Avoid bikes with Shimano or Bafang. Nothing against them but they don't seem to be as reliable and strong for offroad usage then something like Bosch, Yamaha or Brose, also in the shop I work at we've had issues with getting spare parts (cables and such). It is a good idea to get a bike with good warranty (at least 2 years on the motor/battery). Look to get at least 625 Wh Batteries and (less importantly) a good display interface (for example bosch smart system). The rest is just like a normal bike, in descending order of importance; brakes, tires, suspension, drivetrain, although on a heavy bike, strong brakes take on a bit more priority then on a light(er) full suspension mountain bike.

I have a Ransom e-ride 920 2023 and it rides pretty well. I've made some parts changes but the stock specification is honestly good for the price.

Right now, with the state of the industry you'd be hard pressed not to find a discounted last years model for a good price at a local shop. Look at Specialized, Scott, Canondale, Trek. Sadly for now, canyon, yt and the likes use Shimano motors and as far as i know they put on 625 or bigger batteries on the top end models only, plus, it is much easier to solve potential issues with a lbs then trying to argue over email.

Hope this helps!

Depends what kind of bike you want, there's a huge selection and none are terrible. Full power/Lightweight, Long rides/Short blasts, Shimano/Bosch/Brose/Bafang/TQ/Fazua etc motor?
What local stores service certain brands?
Most brands sell a budget version of their top spec bikes, you could pick one you like the motor of and always upgrade parts over time.

Give us an idea of what you're looking at and people will give you any pros and cons they know exist.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and offer your advice and personal opinions. I have a few in mind including the Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 Action Team, and most recently been researching the Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert. I suppose whatever bike I eventually choose…after some use I will discover advantages and disadvantages!
