29x2.6 bikes don't fit on Vancouver bus bike racks, alternatives?

It turns out that although Translink Vancouver buses all have bike racks, they cannot carry bikes with 29x2.6 tires. It's just too big for the arm that holds the tire.

What alternative transportation (excluding riding the bike) is available not costing an arm and leg?

Skateboard. You can carry it with an ARM and you will get one bigger LEG after all the pushing. I have found 2.6 bikes only fit on snow and sand- other wise they have very little use. LOL
