My grandson is just getting a little interested in mtb
We have a chance to buy a brand new 2009 Giant Reign X0 for $450
It was a warranty replacement frame complete with shock that never got used, the owner has added from his parts bin
a 1x11 sram. 11-42 group set 32t chainring
Rockshock Sector gold 27.5 fork 140 installed with fast adapted head set
27.5 front butcher 2.4 tire
26. 2.6 MAXIS rear
HYDRAULIC BRAKES 203f 180r
Dropper post
It’s a size S and he is about. 5f 3”
Would this be a good start for him or would a new entry level bike be better

Probably fine.
What's the concern? The bike being too "old" or something?
I have a bike from 1993 I still ride sometimes. I'm not racing on it or anything, but I have a great time riding it.
