Trail maintenance disappointment

Went out with a non-profit trail maintenance crew in Oakridge, OR this weekend and was completely let down.
I've only done trail work by myself or with friends, this was my first time with an organized non-profit crew. In short it sucked.

No one was friendly, I introduced myself to their circle of 12 and only one introduced themselves back. Weird.

Safety meeting consisted of a guy saying if we find any arrowheads or indigenous artifacts "Throw them into the woods and don't say anything or they will shut us down". What the f*ck?! I'm not an archaeologist but that is a f*cked thing to say.

Trail work, I guess. We took an awesome completely ridable single track and made it into double track. The reasoning they gave me, "This has to last five years". That's not maintenance, I don't know what that is.

The wrap up. The locals talking shit on other locals that weren't there ( I have been riding the area for a decade but only recently moved to the area).

Was pretty bummed on it, and just wanted to get it out.

Sounds pretty toxic! Curious though, how did the crew turn singletrack into a doubletrack? Did they have big friggin' machines??

We cut a single track bench into a double. It was a sweet rideable trail and now it’s cut into a two lane trail. The lead guy could tell I didn’t like it and would just say it has to last five years.

same here in the UK, they build 'all weather' trails that only work in the wet, materials that are alien to the enviroment they are in and sometimes actuall paving of trails that might as well have been concrete!!

I'll stick to illegal pirate trails
