Just got my custom Hope Pro 5 wheels and the hub is almost silent. It’s so weird. I used to run Pro 4’s before the update and this is like night and day. I removed all(yes all) of the grease and yet they are almost dead silent. Before anyone asks, I use my bike every day for commute as well. And loud hubs are a blessing for me in crowded areas. I think I might have to get the E-bike version where all 6 pawls engage simultaneously, maybe that will be louder. Quite disappointed to say the least…
I've been running a pro5 rear for over a year now on my DH, I have pro 4's on my trail. They're not as loud as the pro4's but they spin sooo much longer! I too was on the fence about the soft sound when I first got them but now they're one of my favorite sounding hubs. give them a chance, let them break in a bit

I've ordered the trials springs, the ones without the cutout. See if that makes a difference
Nah, I love my pro5, they'll be my go to hubs from now on. let them break in, they sound cool and they spin forever.
it just so happens that I laced a new i9 hydra for my city bike just for kicks a few days ago. Brand new, the hydra is about the same loudness as the pro 5, maybe a touch quieter. What I noticed immediately about the hydra was that while it does sound cool, I can feel the drag, which is nonexistent on the pro 5, if that makes sense.
If you want loud AF hubs right out of the box, I had a halo chaos on my DJ and that was obnoxiously loud.
After owning Kings, DT, Saint, Ringle, Halo, Profile, oem spesh, atomlab, Hope, and now i9, I can say that Hope wins. I can work on them at home with mediocre mechanic skills. My pro 4s are tried and trusty, and i'm also totally stoked with the 5 after thrashing it for a year, spins forever and just enough buzz on the trails
I've had mine on the bike since February last year and thought the same thing. Quiet but spin forever and engagement is spot on.
I'd say they're no louder after a year of riding IMO, serviced them about 3 months ago and was surprised at how little grease was in them from factory.
