So my daughter’s 2022 Neuron CF 9 lost the Horst link bolt on a ride. Thinking it was a simple part, I looked it up and found it is a special kit w two machined spacers w 45 degree chamfer heads. No standard shoulder hardware here.
So I try to buy the “kit” for $40 and they say they are out of stock. I submit a complaint and they get back to me saying they don’t know when they will be back in stock, possibly 6-8 weeks. I can see that if I am in CA or UK, they show in stock. They tried to get some more transferred to the US office but then said they failed.
So the design is crap w the flat head screw not bottoming out to generate torque for locking, instead the thing is at a floating positing and the nut says “use locktite” on its head. Obviously a bad design that doesn’t work. They of course changed it on the 2023- versions.
So not wanting to wait all summer to be able to ride a $4000 bike because of a $5 spacer, I decided to make a replacement. It was good that I had the other side to measure from.
I ditched the blind socket nut feature and used a M6 flat head screw flipped w head inboard to allow for a nylock nut to be used on the outside. This should retain better and makes it so I don’t have to thread on spacer or figure out how to tighten it.
