hello, I heard that new yamaha ebike motors have some protection feature that locks the motor after 99km (60 miles) if it detects some messing with speed signal (installed chip)
is that true or some persuasion from bike shop guy based on wrong knowledge not to install the chip?
I have the chip for a few days now and it works great, but haven't got to 99km without shutting of the bike.

I don't know about the Yamaha specifically, but it is common practice for the manufacturers to install tamper protection on ebikes. I've seen many reports of bike systems shutting down because of this. It can happen from actual tampering or even if the system suspects tampering has happened. In the cases I've read, the user has to take their bike to the shop, the shop plugs the bike into a website and if the site detects tampering then the bike owner is out of luck - the bike is dead and the shop won't assist in the repair.
