Increasing the length of a rock shock pike 140 on a Optic?

Ive got a 2021 C3 Optic, been told & read that by changing the air damper you can make the 140mm fork a 150-160 (depending on serial number). Quiet keen on this idea to get more travel, run a softer fork & slacken the front rather than swap a bike Im fond of for something like a sight / slash etc. Anyone done this & able to share the results / what diference it makes?
