Trek Fuel Gen 7 - M or L?

Coming from a Gen 6 M/L. Feels great with a 45mm stem. I'm about 5'9". New Gen 7 doesn't come in M/L anymore and sat on a Gen 7 L and it felt a touch long. I haven't been able to find a M to sit on but on paper it seems quite short. I also had a Trek Rail M in the past that felt short to me.

Anyone have experience with the Gen 7 and similar height? I'm honestly not super picky about descending reach when I'm descending, it's more top tube length when I'm pedaling/climbing that I want to feel comfortable.

I am 5'10" went with the L. I think it comes with a 45mm stem feels great to me. the seat tube is much more upright so the pedaling position is very good as well.

I would not buy a bike that costs $,$$$ without trying it first. My local Trek shop has been more than willing to transfer a bike from another trek dealer from another state just so I can try it out. For more expensive bikes (i.e. Trek Madone) they have been willing to lend it to me overnight to be sure the fit is right.
