hey...
first of all,,.I ride street(BMX) and I know what's difference between freecoaster and cassette hubs.,,
soooo i have around 200 euro and I'm planing to buy new hub,,
but,,i was planing to buy cassette hub and then my friend told me that would be pretty cool to buy freecoaster,,i agreed with him...
so,, to get on point...are freeacosters easy to break, are they stronger or weaker than cassete???(i wouldn't like to spend 200euro and then after 2 months broke hub)
for 200 euro,,is it better to buy pretty good cassette hub or solid freecoaster??

Freecoasters pretty much hold up as good as cassette hubs, but you have to take care of them and grease them every now and then.

i would get one but what i find impossible is to turn back around from riding backwards withought peddaling. i have tryed a whole day where i took off my chain and i would just roll up a quarter pipe and ride backwards then try to do a turn around, but its like impossible. It just doesnt work no matter whatever differnt ways i try.....doing a slider is like impossible without pedaling forward.

I wouldn't say freecoasters are quite as strong as a lot of cassette hubs you can buy, but a lot of them can still take a lot of abuse. The main difference is just that you can roll fakie for ages (youtube bruce crisman for a good example). Probably the strongest freecoaster I've seen is the KHE Reverse.
Riding them.... hard as hell until you get used to it. i've been playing on a mates brakeless freecoastered beast recently, and reverting after rolling back, the main choice is to either hop it round, try to slider it but flick it round real quick, or do it like a normal roll back, but pedal forwards to pick up the drive instead of engaging the back brake.

Its bad for the drive mechanism to use pedal pressure when reverting.

You're best off either hopping, or as you've said, doing a slider to turn back around.


If you can find one, the KHE geisha is the best FC out right now. the Reverse has issues with the driver bearings seizing up. The new Federal coaster is based off of the KHE Reverse, but I have heard they are doing a running change on the driver bearing, to increase its durability.
