mate i was in the same boat as u a month or so ago. Still deciding on and building my downhill rig. 90% done though. Just waiting on parts to come. But i can share with u wat ive learnt Smile

frame = Anything that catches ur eye and budget. u cant go wrong with any of the main brands like Specialized, Santa Cruz, Kona, etc. My favorite frame is the 2006+ Devinci Wilsons. You can get great used deals here on PinkBike. I bought my Wilson from here.

fork = Again any Triple Crown within ur budget will do. RockShox or Marzocchi. Again u can get awesome 2nd hand deals here.

Brakes = I would spend good money on brakes. Being 6'2" (dont now how heavy u r) i wouldnt go anything less than Avid Code 5 or Juicy 7 or any Magura Brakes. You'll find awesome used deals here. I bought my 2006 Magura Gustav M here for under $300!

Gearing = X7 is fine....even X5 if u not racing... I ride chainless most times Wink All about the pump.

Wheelset = Transition Revolution Wheelset is best value at around $300

Seatpost. Seat. Stem. Handlebar = Cheap Used scratched up stuff. There is an Easton EA70 Bar going for $10!!! Get it!

Chain = SRAM PG951 is nice and cheap.

Crankset = FSA Gravity Lite is cheap and good...or Shimano Hone

Chainguide = Gravity Chain Guide is Cheaper than e13..like $30-$40 cheaper.

Pedals...get any 2nd hand one from here u like the look of as pedals do the same thing. and unless u r racing...pedaling isnt ur main focus.....now if u were doing XC or big freerides then yeah spend a bit more.

well hope that helps....if u are on a budget then dont worry about buying used scratched up stuff as u downhill bikes get ruffed up.....its just aesthetics.

you might find a better deal on a built bike

I second money in the brakes and the vivid out back
dont cheap out on rims!

Dont worry about the juicy 5's they are exact same brake as the juicy 7's without the pad contact adjust feature. I have run both to great extent and the 5's will have the exact same performance as the 7's, just not a much bling. And they are alot cheaper.

Boxxer Team
Juicy 5s
SRAM x7
Hollzfeller cranks
E13 SRS
Block 8 Pedals
Mavic 721s on your choice of hub
Easton bar and vice stem

Those would be my choice of components, what frame is this going on?

DO NOT cheap out on handle bars and stems ! If you can buy new, do it. Otherwise it can lead to some pretty serious injuries !
