im building up a dh rig and need to know whats parts i should get??im kinda of on a budjet because my parents arent paying for any of it. no sure what frame fork or wheels to get. i think im going to go with x.7 or x.9, e13 srs or lg1. race face ride dh crank. some cheap seat and post. cheap bars and stem. already have tires. brakes im going to go with juicy 5 8"(good bad??). what do you think about the frame fork and wheels and also the other parts. im looking at the deetrack wheels or maybe a s-type wheel set. im 15 and 6'2" so im basically full size wondering if anybody could help thnks!
mate i was in the same boat as u a month or so ago. Still deciding on and building my downhill rig. 90% done though. Just waiting on parts to come. But i can share with u wat ive learnt
frame = Anything that catches ur eye and budget. u cant go wrong with any of the main brands like Specialized, Santa Cruz, Kona, etc. My favorite frame is the 2006+ Devinci Wilsons. You can get great used deals here on PinkBike. I bought my Wilson from here.
fork = Again any Triple Crown within ur budget will do. RockShox or Marzocchi. Again u can get awesome 2nd hand deals here.
Brakes = I would spend good money on brakes. Being 6'2" (dont now how heavy u r) i wouldnt go anything less than Avid Code 5 or Juicy 7 or any Magura Brakes. You'll find awesome used deals here. I bought my 2006 Magura Gustav M here for under $300!
Gearing = X7 is fine....even X5 if u not racing... I ride chainless most times All about the pump.
Wheelset = Transition Revolution Wheelset is best value at around $300
Seatpost. Seat. Stem. Handlebar = Cheap Used scratched up stuff. There is an Easton EA70 Bar going for $10!!! Get it!
Chain = SRAM PG951 is nice and cheap.
Crankset = FSA Gravity Lite is cheap and good...or Shimano Hone
Chainguide = Gravity Chain Guide is Cheaper than e13..like $30-$40 cheaper.
Pedals...get any 2nd hand one from here u like the look of as pedals do the same thing. and unless u r racing...pedaling isnt ur main focus.....now if u were doing XC or big freerides then yeah spend a bit more.
well hope that helps....if u are on a budget then dont worry about buying used scratched up stuff as u downhill bikes get ruffed up.....its just aesthetics.
Dont worry about the juicy 5's they are exact same brake as the juicy 7's without the pad contact adjust feature. I have run both to great extent and the 5's will have the exact same performance as the 7's, just not a much bling. And they are alot cheaper.
hey the faith frame has 150x12 spacing so i cant get mavic deetrack wheels cuz they only come in 135x10 spacing so wondering on what type of wheels to get. i might build wheels with camo mtx rims and some cheaper hubs. what should i do or get??
alright so heres what im thinking for parts frame=giant faith 1 brakes=juicy 5 203mm deraileur=x.7 med or posibly x.9 short or med wheels=not sure yet but maybe azonic outlaw or build up mtx camo rims on some cheap hubs seat= supercross pro carbon fork=888??? or maybe boxxer team chain=sram pg-951 or kmc or shimano cassette=sram pg-950 11-26t or 12-23t,shimano tiagra 11-25t crank=fsa gravity lite hone orrace face ride dh chainguide e13 lg1 or srs, fsa gravity chainguide pedals=azonic fusion mag headset=fsa pig shifter=x.7 or x.9 trig
