FOX DHX 3.0 ; how is it adjusted?

How is the Fox DHX 3.0 adjusted? I noticed it has an air valve, whats that for? how does removing/adding air affect the shock? is it like tires, does it loose air over time and require to be pumped?what kind of a air pump does it require.
And also what happens by turning the shock by hand on the threads what does that do???? I'm not a beginner but I just never had a rear shock before, thanks for the help

it has rebound, preload(the twisting of the coil as u mentioned) and the air valve is kind of like a propedal thing, but it just adjusts how much the shock damps everything, i beleive like an all in one air valve? i run mine with minimal pressure so its more supple but adding air will make it pedal firmer

number one note for learning how to set up a rear shock. NEVER LET ALL THE AIR OUT OF THAT CHAMBER AND CYCLE THE SHOCK. reason being there is air which u put in nitrogen and oil that they (shock manufatururs) put in espesially fox. when the air is not there the oil and nitrogen will mix and mess up ur shock causing u to get it rebuilt.
SETUP : if ur heavier turn the coil to the left one turn to much will void warranty
for freeriding and dhr minimal air is good in that chamber this is good for small bumps and pedalling
now the rebound should be blue or red knob allows you to set how fast the shock returns to normal position,

I don't think it can be for the rebound or preload, becasue the shock also has a red knob that has rebound written on it...

so is the rear shock like tires, does it loose air over time and require to be pumped???

no no no, i didnt say the air was for that lol it had knobs for that. i think the air valve minorly adjusts things like propedal or compression or sometihnt that the 5's come with nobs for, the 3 just has the air to make it more or less effective.. if u know what i meen lol its hard to explain
