i would say 180 tops because any more and you will throw the geo way out of wack and risk snapping the headtube

You can put up to 200mm forks on the BigHit. Specialized installs a Marzocchi 888 on it from stock on the newer BigHits, and most people that I've seen with older BigHits have 200mm forks.

Forks that will fit include the Marzocchi 888, Fox 40, and RockShox Boxxer. No matter what fork you get, you can get harder or softer springs installed in them depending on what you want.

If you're that worried, any of those forks can be lowered to whatever you'd like.

Yeah but those are the new model BigHits. I'm glad that they didn't put any double crown forks for '09, because single crowns are better IMO now. Some single crowns are stiffer than DCs, plus they are lighter and you have a free range of steering. I was also set on getting double crown forks (888 ATA WCs) on my Demo before I got it (I was a big fan on DCs) but after I tried my Totem I realised that they're kinda pointless now.

I don't think you're supposed to go much more than 180 on the older BigHit's with 24" rear.

Yes, you have a 24" rear wheel and it's a different frame.

Yes it is a big difference.
