I an planning on buy a rocky mountain slayer sxc 30. However before i buy it i want to know its pros and cons. I hear its a great descender but i havent heard alot of its climbing capibility or if rockys claims of the LC2R absorbing small bumps, better acceleratione etc are true.

I found the sxc to ascend quite well, especially compared to the FR bikes I am used to. I've ridden an SXC 70 on a couple occasions for demo days, and I loved it, descending is awesome and going up is as fun as it could be without a motor. The 30 level bike will be a bit heavier, though, so won't climb quite as well, but the susp. remains the same and I found it to be quite effective for a 6" bike.

Others will recommend a Reign, but the only experience I had on one I didn't really like it so much, but it was a short ride so I can't really say.

Search the news pages on here, "brule" did a nice review on an SXC 90 a little while back. There's also a good video of Geoff Gulevich sending it on one, showing its versatility.

I have the same experience as the guy above having only ridden on demos but just like him I loved it. For a 6" bike it climbs remarkably well and that's simply due to Rocky doing their work on the suspension. Fox also does a great job with the Float and it has been tuned absolutely perfectly for the bike. As for stutter bumps I did get to ride over those on a farm track and it handles them with ease. Again it just comes down to a lot of work by both Rocky and Fox on this bike (also keep in mind that it is effectively the same suspension as the Slayer SS and Flatline DH/FR bike so that lets you know how versatile the suspension is). I would make a suggestion that if you can afford the little bit more that you go with the SXC 50 instead of the 30 not only because you'll get a slightly better parts spec but you'll get Fox forks and Carbon 'seat stays'. Obviously they will weigh less than the aluminum on the 30 but they do actually help absorb harsher vibrations from bumps and particularly stutter bumps.
Also Pink Bike did a review on the SXC 70 a little while back so I'd look at that review as other than things related to parts it will give you a really great idea of a real world test of the bike. All in all I think which ever SXC you get you'll be happy with. If I wasn't racing DH next year I was going to get one as my all-around have fun bike so if that's what you'd like you're right on target

I have Slayer 70 for XC/Am. It's a great and pedals quite well for a bike with 6" in the rear. But the bike really shines on the downhill parts, the Slayer is a super solid descender. I really like mine.

Both the 30 and 50 do not have travel adjust. The 30 has a standard Marz 55R and the 50 has a Fox 36 Float. As said before I prefer the Fox but if that and the carbon stays aren't able to persuade you to save a little longer to get the 50 than you know what you need and thus you will be really happy with your choice. If you are more thinking of spec now go to Rocky's website (www.bikes.com) as they have full spec lists on the site. The biggest thing with buying a bike is trust your gut. If you know you will be happy then go for it. If not look around but if your gut says an SXC you'll definitely be happy

If you go with the 30, you'd be able to upgrade the wheelset sooner, which is something i would look at doing as one of the first upgrades that will make a noticeable difference. I would actually upgrade the wheelset whether I bought the 30 or 50, as they are basically the same, but it's not like the stock wheelset isn't gonna roll up and down a hill. It's just that wheels make a huge difference and nice ones are...nice.

The Rocky has Prowler xt in 2.3", which I've heard good things about, but haven't ridden in more than dry, semi-loose conditions, in which they were not noticeably bad, but I didn't notice anything special either.

i run minions on my slayer 70 they are great bikes, i bought mine used so i cant say about the stock tires
good bike though great for climbing and descends amazing, i have used it dhing and on the slopestyle course it has a nice stiff rear end its like my flatline but with less travel the suspension is great
