For DJs COPs where good last year but not so much this year, and Fish Creek is supposed to have some jump lines. The closet FR will be COP or Moose Mountain. For park Millinium is a sweet old school park down town and Cochran has it's own park, and for street check out some of the industrial areas as they have loads of loading docks, banks, gaps etc. You'll also get bothered less in the industrial areas than down town. Most big single hucks around the city are run down and no lnger ridable or are on private land.Pimp

Nose Hill. Some fun lines up there. Plus you will get in shape accessing them.

Nose hill is out! The city is closing the entire slope down to ALL traffic. The paved pathway system they have put in SUCKS BOBO and they are going to TRY to enforce the rules! The good dh's are all being fenced up and the only way to deal with that is to bring a 22mm socket and a wrench (or a saw) to clear the way. Remember 22MM!!
remember to not make all bikers look bad, but the city is trying to save the park! My idea of putting a glass globe over it and DO NOT TOUCH signs all around was too costly! Let alone the difficulty in shaking it so that the fake snow swirls around! lol!

Pony is still up for grabs...wrong trail and wrong province.

Better hurry - pony hasn't been fed in weeks and is starting to look kinda scrawny.

Anarchy! I went to all those meetings and everyone said the same thing: "don't touch the park." So out of all that input they pave the top.

Good luck in trying to enforce the rules. Being chased by an overweight cop riding a 40 lb. Trek Police bike would add a new dimension of fun to the rides up there. If you get caught then that is a message that you are in poor shape.

When I was up there last it was pretty easy to just go around most fences. I thought some simple snips would do.

Do they expect all the people walking their dogs up there to stay on the pavement? I don't see this working. There is always a way to access trails without ducking a fence so...

what was the reasoning behind the paving, and who's bright idea was it in the first place? it is ridiculous...

Hysteria aside...

The meetings I attended were open forums. The majority of attendees were bikers. The input was all the same - don't touch the park.

The city employees had a pre-determined plan and were told to host these meetings and then come to the conclusion of the pre-determined plan. A lot of the input for the plan came from uninformed community neighbourhood associations. There was also input from a group called "The Friends of Nose Hill Park"...nice handle...sort of implies that everyone else has a mandate to ruin the place. Anyways...

Erosion was always cited as a bi-product of biking. Hysteria follows along the lines of "if we continue to allow bikers up there the hill will be gone in a couple of years." I kid you not on this point - this paraphrases a lot of the letters to the editor that ran in the Herald around this time. Total BS, but BS put forward by a group that is connected (Friend of Nose Hill Park - not an interest group but a self-interest group).

After attending a bunch of meetings I lost interest as it was pretty apparent that nothing was going to change the pre-determined master plan.

The paving came about to make the park accessible from major points and to try to consolidate the traffic down a limited number of paths to prevent erosion. This was backed up by some studies that were quickly discredited. They also wanted to ensure that there was wheelchair access and a commuter route across the park. At least this is what I took out of the meetings - I may be wrong - first time for everything.

When you read what is written in the paper it sounds like bikers are up there with strip mining and clear cutting in terms of environmental devistation.

I think the city is inviting huge conflicts and shouldn't be surprised when people start packing snips and wrenches to right a wrong.

That's my 2¢

thanks for the info; i'm finally starting to catch on that these crazy desicions by a few city and province parks people actually affect us bikers and our trails; i'm a bit late in the game but i think i have officially been woken up...

Smile that bridge/skinny is called walk the line, tie my new pony to the race of spades sign, or at least leave some spikes under it. 5inchers or 8 inchers would be great. what am i gonna do with a pony anyway. the hammer and axe is from toronto at least. lol. got any more ROS pics? i always like seein em.

Race of Spades wins the man a pony!

Obscure trivia answer about the hammer and axe being from Toronto gets you entered into our grand prize draw! How exciting, eh?

New picture is up...

PS - How did you want the pony delivered - you can go with chops and steaks or ground and formed into pony patties?

hahaha. love it. grand prize potential too? sweet.forgive the obscure tools trivia- i was referring to some of the tools used for building that stunt. id like the pony attached on a line at the start of the climb that follows the stunt on ROS you had pictured earlier. i hate that climb, so if the pony is waiting for me at the bottom that'd be great. maybe some kind of attachment for my bike so the pony could carry me and my bike both up would be fantastic. we might have found the next progression in freeriding- pony accompaniment for climbs. your new pic looks like the bench, oh it might be off mt.7....more ponies?
