ok, i hate hydro brakes now-my juicy 7 is crap and i want a cable disc. i have heard a lot of good feedback about the bb 7 and wanted to ask some questions.
1) when i buy one will i need to buy the cable/lever seperately
2) if i need to buy the lever seperately can i use a bmx lever (i heard somewhere that mtb and bmx levers have different pull ratios or something, but it could be something i heard in a dream)
replies will be much appreciated, thanks adrian (caravanking) Beer

If you are looking for cable disc brakes, BB7s are THE brakes to go for.
If you buy the brakes, you get the caliper and the rotor - you will need to buy the levers and cables seperately. Brakes are either short-pull or long-pull, and you need an apropriate lever to match. most disc brakes and all v-brakes are long pull. as far as i know most road brakes (u-brakes, cantilever, etc) are short pull. You can get BB7s in a MTB version (long pull, and the most common kind) and also in a road version (short pull) which are probably more likely to work with your bmx levers if the levers are designed for short-pull brakes. hope this helps...

that is probably the most helpful answer i have ever had on pinkbike-thanks Beer

actually, you can run a bmx lever, yes the pull is different, but if you run a J lever, they feel pretty damn awesome... you just have to play around with the adjustment a bit.

100% spot on. I actually just took off my BB7/Speed Dial 7 lever set-up and replaced with a Juicy Ultimate. I just hate the feeling of a manual lever. If interested PM as I have the set-up for sale...

true - it is possible to run non-matching short/long pull caliper/levers. From what i hear this creates a less than ideal setup, and requires a bit more fiddling to get it tuned properly, so your best matching them, i guess.

yea, go for it mate, there awesome brakes. I ran my old one with a bmx linear cable, but prefered the avid speed dial lever, to a small bmx one, but thats personal preference!

I have a BB7 with a Odyssey Monolever and I have to say its a pretty amazing set up.
Its takes a few rides and tweaks to bed it in properly.
The amount of adjustment you have is unbeleivable, even for a cable disk brake!
Once you have it perfect i would say its actually better than most hydraulic disks.
I never thought i would say this about a cable disk, but if I did DH I would actually be comfortable using two BB7's!

i ride a lot of street and for some reason after i do rotation stuff like 180/360 the lever travel goes from really sensative to all the way to the grip-i hate bleeding them and need to bleed it now and i keep snapping hoses
