the perfect ratio is 44 to 16
so divide 44 by 16
divide 20 by that number and thats wot u need on the rear

'the perfect ratio is 44 to 16 '

there is no perfect ratio. for mtb standard is 36 - 16
1 tooth on cassette is about 2/3 equivelant on a chainring
for mtb i good general micro drive gear would be 24 - 10

dono bout bmx

44 is quite a big sprocket. You can find pretty small ones im sure. but 25 seems pretty reasonable size. that way you have a bit of leverage on your back ratio because i think 12 is the smallest tooth you can use on a normal mountainbike hub.

cant you lace a bmx hub to a 26" rim?

you can but bmx hubs have 110mm spacing and mtb have 135mm, also you cannot mount a disc on a bmx hub
