Hmm ok, I'll stick to hard rock but if you want metal I got bucket loads of it. Some good Hard Rock I used to listen to or still currently do on occasion would include stuff such as

Dry Kill Logic
Sevendust
Tool
Prong
Filter
Superbutt
Pillar
Deftones

Thats all I got off the top of my head, but a pretty solid list none the less. It was Dry Kill Logic that essentially prepared me and let me become the avid extreme Metal listener I am today. So I would highly reccomend that.

Pillar is pretty good.

I don't really know many hard rock bands due to the fact that I'm into Black and Death metal...I'll give you some metal bands if you want though.

They certainly are, their drummer always stood out to me. Which in turn, made me a fan. But sadly he recently disbanded from pillar. They had a concert here recently and according to some friends the new one isn't really up to par.
