Well I finally made a trip out to Devil's after not being there for years. I was pretty sad to see the main jump hasn't been touched since I used to work on it back in 05. Also that tree screwed the rest of the jumps run in's which sucks. It would really take someone with a chainsaw to fix that up.
After that I went to look at my old step down across the train tracks and was plesently surprised. It seems people have been doing some work out there and making a little track down the hill. It was pretty fun to session although a bit of it was a little sketch. It seems the stuff right at the top is somewhat fresh and unfinished.
I'm thinking about going out there with some shovels and working on it a bit just to clean it up. Is anyone on here currently working on the stunts there or interested in fixing it up?
If anyone cares to join me with a shovel I'm heading out there around 6 if it's not raining. I want to get rid of some of the grass and smooth some things out.
Well I put in 2 hours of shovel time by myself and got a fair bit done. I'm starting my way up from the bottem since those were somewhat rideable to being with. It definatly needs a name though other then just being Devils since it isn't actually on the Devils run in. I was thinking of something like "Slayers Run."
Here are some shitty cell phone pics of what I got done.
Im sure alot of the riders who once rode there have moved on...Its a shame cause it was pretty fin back in the day. i plan to make it out once inawhile this summer
I started digging that stuff at the top of the hill, never really had a plan with it though. As you could probably tell haha. The berms are the best thing that I dug.
The top two berms are brand new. The third one is really old, needs a big of work.
I broke my thumb and my bike is royally f*cked from a hard crash this past Sunday, but I might walk up the hill tommorow night at about 5:30 and check out this new stuff. It looks great.
I have two shovels and a rake on that hill somewhere, which hopefully have not been ripped off yet. If I meet you and you seem trust worthy, I'll probably 'donate' them to the build.
This broken thumb sucks so much now. I really want to ride what you have done.
How would you feel about digging a line that curves it way down the hill, instead of just a straight line down? Some friends and I were thinking about making a line that went off to the right of the jump at the top, then takes a left towards the middle jumps.
Well The jumps were there for a long time. They were just really haggard from no one working on them. The Berms as Canadmos has just posted were brand new. I only just rode them on monday for the first time. Sadly I didn't hit my original step down . I've worked on them this tuesday and wednesday in the rain.
The jumps are located in the Rogers Resevoir Conservation Area, so basically Holland Landing . They are in the west most portion across 2nd concession. If you go from the parking lot on 2nd concession take the path through the chainlink gate and stick close to the railroad tracks. If your coming in from old Yonge then you turn onto Chapman street and go east along the train tracks You will see them eventually, but they are fairly deep in. They are right across the train tracks from Devils Drop. I really have to see about contacting the township to remove the tree from Devils.
That jump before the 2nd berm was sketchy as hell lol. I just about went over the bars the first time because I landed half in the berm and half flat. The berms are great though. That dig hole after the 2nd berm was a bit annoying as I had to fill it in to make a line to the first step down. I have alot of plans, but I've only been digging for 4 hours so there is a long ways to go.
If you are willing to wait another 15 minutes, or so I could possible meet you there. I'll pm you my cell #. Just hit me up with a text and I'll see what I can do about getting back from work in time. I can't spend alot of time there to dig or anything, but I could show you what I want to do.
As for your shovels the only thing I saw up there was a broken handle behind the cedar bush at the 2nd berm. I just walk mine in every time as I learned long ago not to leave them around unless its just a small old pos.
I have definatly thought of alternate lines to run up there. I would really like a run right from the top that is nothing but berms and table tops zig zagging all the way down A-Line style. However my first priority is to get everything that is already built into riding shape.
It's a bit hard to explain in text, but I'll try to explain how I want it to flow. As it sat you had the exit of the 2nd berm leeding into the two little sketchy jumps. It then turned slowly to the right towards the 2nd step down.
What I want is a 2nd path right after the 2nd berm that leeds to the first step down. I showed a picture of what I cut out to create this path. There will be a berm on this route as well. Also there would be a split off of this path across the main path going into the run in for the original step down and the monster step down that was half built.
The main path will have the two sketchy jumps combined into one low kick table top. From there the 3rd berm will need to be touched up. There is a 70 degree turn into the run in for the Original step down that needs a berm as well.
I want it so you almost have 3 completly different ways down the hill with the least possible work. Sorry about the wall of text lol.
I do plan on doing some shovel work Sat around 1pm.
Your plan sounds awesome, especially that a-line style part. And yeah the flat part right before the second berm was retarded. I was planning on making the transition better, just never got around to it.
As for that roller type thing and the other tiny bump or whatever you want to call it after the second berm, I'm in full favour of ripping those out. I just got tired of constantly filling in the holes where people would walk on them.
I also wouldn't mind trying to fill in the hole behind the exit of the second berm. If you screw up and land it, it really, really blows haha
I can definatly wait around a bit longer tommorow, but can't stay late as I have to head out to Buffalo.
You can probably leave that hole there. I want to build that berm up another foot or so. If you manage to muck that up I think your going to be hurt either way lol.
I can't really stay long either. I've got to do some dry walling at my parent's place and then I'm going up to Barrie to hit the bars.

i saw you building them i was the one with the faith
Doing some more work today. I got the twin booter finished up and I'm working on the old step down. I'm going to add in a new shorter step down to warm up on and for the younger guys to hit. It's marked by the shovels so far.

i was looknig at that step down, it scares me a bit to think what will happen if i crash. i've never built before but if you guys need help i am willing to help(i only live 20 so minutes away....
That jump was the only one back in the day that gave me butterfly's in my stomach every time I hit it. There is no second guessing yourself when you hit it due to the gap. I'm working on a jump right beside it that is pretty much the same kick, but with no gap. You still have a good amount of drop, but you can hit it alot slower if you want.

I could always use a hand with building it as it's just me with the shovel until Canadmos heals up.
