Dual slalom. Is this the right area?

So I have never race dual slalom or 4X before and want to check it out this year.
I race BMX every weekend.

Would it be crazy for me to just show up to the sea otter classic and race having never done it and have no where to try a course first?

Or Is that a little crazy for my first race on 26" wheels?

You would be fne, just race begginer. I helped build a lot of the course last year, and im gonna help

if you are expierienced on a bmx, and have had enough riding time on your mtb, i would say race cat 2. its a completely different sport than bmx, but a lot of the skills will transfer over, as well as the fitness, and usac will still let you race cat 2 on a one day license.
