This is a general thread for getting an OFSAA mountain bike championship in Ontario. If we can get enough supporters, it might work. Facebook thread here. If you're interested join it.

I'm thinking XC or Super D mainly due to the fact that most places will have an XC or super D track.

PLease do 4X. Our town is HUGE for BMX, so 4X would be sick. There would be a ton of guys at our school to promote it.

IDK, i'll see what can be done, but i'm thinking XC or Super D mainly due to the fact that most places will have an XC or super D track, while not so many places will have a full 4X track with a start gate. I'd love to have a 4X race, I've always wanted to try it, but for the reasons said above i don't know about it.

Depends what kind of racing we're doing. If it's XC it will have to be races held on public trails. Anything else, and lack of courses/tracks/trails comes into play. Then again, if our Ofsaa Ski/Snowboard teams travel up so places like St. Louis from Aurora regularly, maybe travel isn't a huge issue?

But what are we looking at so far?
-Cross Country
-4X

Those are the only two that seem viable for southern Ontario, unless we consider freestyle (Dirt Jumping/Slopestyle)

Should be cool to see how it turns out. Smile

For some reason, i can't see a huge amount teachers encourgaging us to dirt jump or do slopestyle. And travel isn't really an issue, i traveled 7 hours to get to OFSAA for xc skiing (ottawa to midland), but if there is a place that has it all, it could happen their.

Yeah, I know DJ/SS is a huge stretch. Outside of that, 4X is about the only thing I'd be able to do on my bike.

EDIT: Has anyone happened to read this over? http://www.ofsaa.on.ca/site/index.cfm?DSP=Chapter&ID=24

xc would be the best and cheapest insurance wise so id go with that, insurance goes up alot when the riding gets more extreme. plus what place doesnt have xc trails?

Well theres a crap load of Ontario certified BMX tracks. I live in Port Elgin, and BMX is huge here. Theres a couple guys that race 4X bikes in the BMX class, but its just not fair.

I wouldn't mind a 4X or downhill race, even if we didnt have a pnumatic (run by air perssure) gate. Anything that gets us riding would be great. Id love to meet some of you guys in person haha.

I mostly only ride DH/FR and Dirtjump/Skatepark etc.,but I would still ride XC or 4X

My school is full of BMXers that also ride DJ, and one of our teachers is the head guy at "Chappels Racing," which is for BMX, but he also rides street bikes, so I don't think a teacher/coach would be a problem for either.

If we can get one event going (say...XC), that could be the stepping stone for other events, rather than indroducing our schools to something brand new, with a lot of risk, all at once, we can work our way up. I would be willing to be our school rep, or help admin the facebook group... whatever it takes let me know.
