ok managed getting the shock out fine and cleaned it okay. but i now have a major problem. as i took the rebound adjuster off it snapped. after refitting the shock to see what damaged had been done, i've found out there is now maximum rebound damping and the shock is super sluggish. seeing as i have no money now as i only just bought the bike, could someone please tell me if this shock would be okay?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Manitou-swinger-3-way-240mm-eye2eye-76mm-stroke-NEW_W0QQitemZ150315978624QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item150315978624&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1298%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

is there any difference between a 240mm and a 241mm? i know this sounds obvious but i really dont know.
please help!
thanks

Here's a simple alternative guys. ELKA suspension. It is better than fox pushed shocks, and $500 witha high tensile spring. They tune it to your weight, riding style, and bike. I was the first one to get a demo 9 rear shock done from them. They are great to work with, and speedy.

When you get a fox shock for the demo, or a vivid etc... you need to mess with eyelets, d.u. bushings, etc. Save yourself the hassle, and get something that outperforms these other shocks anyways.

Friend has one on his demo 9. He likes mine much more lets just say... and he is very good at setting his suspension up right.

Edit: I am telling you, elka is worth the extra dough.

Only the swingers will fit in both Positions(shock mounts or bb heights, just to be clear. The dhx and roco will fit but only in lower mount or lower bb height. Hope that helps.

don't worry there is a brit here now lol! you told him!!!
iv got a demo 9 and im about to buy a new shock thanks for the warning so what shocks do fit other than a swinger 4/6?

I am new to my demo 9 and i have been playing around with it a little bit. What's the difference between the 2 positions. my 5.0 is set at the lower one right now and it seems way to loose and it bottoms out a lot. if i switch it to the upper hole will it feel stiffer? or is it the same?

Did you make sure you flipped the shock when you change hole (one is the slack setting the other is steep)

ones slack and ones steep meaning the steep setting will me more of a freeride to give a little more insight, the steep setting will shorten your wheelbase and make the front wheel lift up a little easier. Also, with the steep setting the bike will steer a little quicker which can be a good or a bad thing, it may start to feel twitchy when things get steep or fast and slack would be a downhill setting making the bike feel more stable at high speed and corner better

actually with the suspension design on the demo 9 the wheelbase does not change atall between the high and low suspension settings.the low suspension position is 1 inch lower and is generally suited to downhill riding with 200mm forks. the high position has the bb a bit too high for downhill riding but gives good clearence for freeride. also the manual says that it is not recomended that you use a 24" wheel in the lower position......not that anybody really does that anymore

srry ya you're right about the wheel base just the headtube angle and bottombrack height change

Bottom Bracket Height Low/Mid 371mm (Slack/downhill)
Bottom Bracket Height High/Mid 390mm (Steep/Freeride)

Head Tube Angle Low/Mid 63° (Slack/downhill)
Head Tube Angle High/Mid 64.5° (Steep/Freeride)
