Highland Mountain Bike Park teamed up with Cannondale to bring the East Coast the first ever European style OverMountain Enduro, bringing out over 100 racers to compete for the $10,000 cash purse! Pros traveled from all over, most notable World Cup racer Marc Beaumont of GT Bicycles, Mark Weir and his WTB/Cannondale race team, Pro freeriders Aaron Chase and George Ryan, and overall winner Barry Wicks of Kona.
The course was comprised of three distinct sections or “specials”, the event favored a balanced rider; one with a capacity for both excellent downhill handling skills and the fitness and finesse of cross-country racing…all on one bike. Adding complexity, the riders were limited to a “walking-only” preview of the third special, a fresh-cut, never-ridden tract of land, meaning riders would have to depend on split second reading of the terrain to choose their lines.
