He has really exploded onto the scene in the last couple seasons, with standout video parts and jaw dropping magazine spreads. We managed to catch up to Doerfling at our North Vancouver headquarters between an early season trip to Spences Bridge and a Freeride Entertainment film expedition to China's Gobi Desert, for their upcoming project, Where the Trail Ends.
James, welcome to the Ryders' team, we are stoked to have you on board. How has your winter been? Yeah, super excited to be on board, it's always exciting to start a season with a new, great sponsor. My winter was long and cold ha ha, I ended up deciding to head up to northern Alberta again to bank some extra cash for the season and maybe a few new toys...
You have been busy recently preparing for another Freeride Entertainment trip to the Gobi Desert. What do you most/least look forward to on a big trip like this? This will be my second trip to China and all I can say is that it is probably the sickest place in the world to do the kind of riding I do... BIG BAD ASS LINES! The thing I least look forward to is probably the long ass flight over there and then the language barrier. The best thing is of course the unreal amount of natural big mountain lines, and the food is pretty amazing too!
It’s a big year, with the Rampage in the Fall. Any specific preparations planned? How do you prepare for the epic huck-neck that competition doles out? Well living in the interior of B.C. I'm pretty lucky to have access to Rampage-like terrain, so just riding lots of big lines and just riding my bike lots in general gets me the most prepared, I find. I've had some bad luck at the past couple Rampages, so I am hoping to ride well there this year with some great new sponsors supporting me.
You haven’t been with us very long, but are there any sunglass styles that you are digging right now? Yeah the sunglasses are sick, and at such good price points compared to a lot of other companies. My favourite are the Pint and the Boiler with the polarized lens. Check out the Shore MTB goggle as well! New colours coming for 2012 season too.
