In the land down under until May, Kovarik Racing will be working with a few fast up and coming Juniors at the three Australian National rounds, the Australian National Championships and the Oceanas before heading back to Whistler for the opening of the Whistler Bike Park. From Whistler they will be based for the rest of the season, doing what they love which is racing, coaching and rider development. Their main season schedule will include a few World Cup rounds thrown into the mix of select local, regional and national level races, skills clinics and Race Development Camps.

"Things are building for us with the coaching side of things and we are also pretty pumped to have the chance to get to a few more races in 2013. We just didn't have the budget or the support before and it is still a big stretch but we are determined to make it to a few big ones. The passion is still there and we aren't off the back, so why the hell not," says Chris.

But the 2013 season will really kick off for them in New Zealand this January where DTR Industries have invited Chris and Claire to share their racing knowledge. They will be hosting two Race Development Camps in conjunction with the first two National rounds on the South Island. Riders will learn about bike set-up, line choice, race skills, tactics and the mental side of things while training and racing with Chris and Claire during the events.

"With over 20 years combined world cup racing experience, Chris Kovarik and Claire Buchar have taken time out from the World Cup racing circuit to become professionally accredited and to teach everything they know," says Corrie Mullin of DTR Industries.

Claire is also pretty excited about the camps and says, "I've heard a lot of good things about the race scene in New Zealand and this is such a cool opportunity for us to build on our own program, share our knowledge, better some riders as well as get to a couple races."

This camp would be awesome, but at $850 for two days I'm unsure whether there will be many riders that can afford it.

It's a 3 day camp that includes accommodation, meals, mechanic/pits, shuttles and transfers plus Race development coaching from Chris and Claire. So if you are planing on racing the nationals anyways, it's pretty good value. Check out the website for details on everything that is included in the 3 days. www.dtrindustries.com/products/kovarik-racing-camp

still a tad expencive for us down under

So does it include nationals race registration fee of ~$100? Shuttles for 2 days are included when you race nationals anyway. The 3rd day is race day so there won't be much coaching will there? The greatest value comes from the coaching, how about a 1 day coaching session at Skyline gondola in queenstown for say $200, this would be within my financial reach.

It is actually a good deal. If you compare private coaching at a ski hill, you pay $500 a day for a no name coach. Here you get two of the best riders/coaches on the planet for under $300/day and your accommodation, meals etc are included... Sounds like a bargain to me.

My Dad did a lesson with Chris in Whistler. He loved it. So we decided to pay for my best mate to get a lesson for his birthday and he said he really benefited from doing that.

Every day it's getting better, thanks! Doing what I can with rehab, still training cardio, legs and my left side upper body with lighter weights...Getting it done to be back on the bike and going fast as soon as possible! Smile

with lower45 doing week long camps with heli biking too seems better value
  • 10
The Lower 45 Camps are awesome! But they are completely different. These camps here are Race Development camps designed for racers doing the National Rounds. We will work with riders on skills, mental aspects and tactics for racing the 2 days leading up to and on race day. So a bit different concept...

I would have paid the $850 if it wasn't race focussed.
