Once the dust finally settled on Glade Park and the Ranch, another amazing year of the Ranchstyle Mountain Bike Festival was in the books. With insanely dusty gear and nasels that felt like a sand box, I made my way down from high above Grand Junction with even more appreciation for the Grassroots crew and all that they do for the mountain bike community in the Grand Valley.
This year saw a slight drop in racers from years past, but that didn't slow down the racing one bit. With some of the top pros in the business made their way up Little Park to the high desert of Glade Park they raced with a picture perfect backdrop of the Grand Valley racing kicked up bright and early. The course was loose and dry due to the lack of rain this spring. Corners were unpredictable and the loom dust seemed to float permanently along the course.
The pros lined up first with over 30 racers trying to make their way deep into the brackets. To no surprise the Geronimo Racing team showed up if force and had three of their four racers in the last two brackets. Jess Pedersen, Brian and Michael Buell all had a great day of racing and ended up 2,3,4. But it was Mikey Sylvestri who laid down the fastest runs to take the overall win.
On the ladies side Wendy Palmer dominated every race to take the top step for the day. Grand Junction local and Grassroots rider Sarah Landis showed some serious improvement in her racing. Palmer's fast pace was pushing the rest of the field to try harder.
