Open Shimano -one of the most prominent mountain bike downhill races- was performed this Saturday in Cerro Catedral slopes under the auspices of Catedral Alta Patagonia and Shimano Latin America, as well as the support of the National Ministry of tourism, National Ministry of tourism-culture and sport of Rio Negro province and Emprotur.
Because of the weather conditions the tournament was reduced to a single day, this situation was overcome successfully and permitted a better tour for the riders, because the rainy weather during the days preceding race left the trail in the best conditions. Riders had time to train in the morning, afterwards continued the classification of all categories and during afternoon finals were performed.
In Master PRO Marcos Mallmann was the winner’s podium, champion of 2013 and candidate for winning this date, he got the second place in the classification behind another local rider Martin Raffo. However roles shift and he showed why he is the Pan-American champion by leaving Raffo in the second place, Millalonco came third, Pelegrina came forth and Rodríguez fifth.
Elites had the winner Noel Zucchelli, while Ramiro Maio was second and Nahuel De la Mano third. In Master B category Gaston Lara was the one who marked the fastest lap time between the Open Shimano Latam adults.
In Master A1 Agustín García didn’t have a rival because he won with an almost 15 second’s advantage. Cadets are considered the sports future, Alexis Goenaga was the fastest with no doubt, he was followed by Sesto Leonardo and Valentin Ricca.
Emiliano Melo was the fastest minor. The local and MTB legend Leonel Sauma was the day’s best Master A2.
Ladies had once again Camila Nogueira from San Martín de los Andes in the first place, followed by Andrea Farias from Chile, while Katie Holden from EEUU got the third place, María Beveraggi from Bariloche came fourth and Maria Jose Angulo fifth.

The PRO had as its favorite’s rider Mauricio Acuña from Chile, winner of the Open Shimanos Latam and Argentine of 2013; Mario Jarrin, currently the second best Latin American of the UCI ranking; Santiago De Santiago; Pablo Seewald and Jeremias Maio –those last three today considered as the fastest of Argentina.

Jarrin was the fastest in the classification and repeated a new victory in an Open Shimano, this time in a Latam date. He was followed by the eternal Santiago De Santiago and in third position was the local Pablo Seewald, those last three are part of Zenith International team. The podium was completed by Mauricio Acuña in the fourth position and by Jeremias Maio in the fifth.
