The Modified ‘BOB’ Stroller Project…

Apr 16, 2003

Well it has been a long road to completion, but here we are. First I would like to the team of people that helped put this little project together. I think I better thank my wife Kim for giving birth to our son Kaeden (you should see his hammer!!), so I now have a whole new realm of toys to play with and purchase. As for the whole crew that helped pull this together, I would sincerely like to thank Damien at BOB strollers, www.bobtrailers.com and the killer bro deal on the most pimp Sport Utility Stroller on earth. I have found this unit an absolute must for the active consumer, as the amount of movement that the child endures is minimal because of the 3” of plush suspension travel. (I know he is going to need more travel as time goes on… but don’t we all, like the 335mm on my 03’ KTM 525 SX)

Jason Haycock at Norco Products in Vancouver BC www.norco.com, for the help in finding me a 36 hole front suspension hub and a 6” mechanical Avid disc brake www.avidbike.com I received the hub from Jay and she was pretty beat, originally the hub was black (not that there is anything wrong with that) and it looked like she had been though a war in the parts bin. I had to get the black paint off to match, and look like the stroller had a factory disc set-up.

I contacted my good friend Brian Holly at Spring Aviation www.springaviation.com for the expertise in the stripping department (he knows strippers well), the paint off the hub that is. After many applications of aviation strength paint remover the hub was a bare as my little boy’s ass just before bath time.

I now focused my attention to ‘wheel god’ Mr. Brent Hooper of Freedom Bike Shop in Pentiction BC www.freedombikeshop.com to those of you in the know, Mr. Looper is some what of a ledged in the cycling world, and with his computer like mind, mastered the custom wheel like no other. Understanding the 36 hole hub had to be laced on a 20 hole aluminum rim? And this flange height, from the hub had never been attempted before on a 20” rim application. I would really like to thank him and the crew a Freedom for this little project. I’m sure it was a bit of a bitch. Just a quick note, when I sent the parts to Brent, I wrapped all the parts in pornographic material from old adult mag’s I just had kicking around, I’m sure he will never forget that package as long as he lives.

Finally, Mr. Murray Linfitt, from Eclectic Metal designs in Kamloops BC 250-554-5415 grabbed a fresh hunk on 6061 and sculpted a stellar disc brake tab and proceeded to weld the tab on like a Top Fuel NHRA chassis builder would. (Even with a broken foot)

All in all, I really would like to thank my wife for putting out at least once… and giving me the opportunity to hot rod a baby stroller like it deserves.

Thanks again

Brad Ewen
