Gravity Challenge I, DH Racing in Red Deer May 16th, 17th and 18th, 2003
Canyon Ski area is the largest non-mountain ski hill in Alberta at 550 vertical feet. The terrain on this hill is steep and gnarly and the course is sure to challenge the most seasoned of DH racers while providing routes for all abilities. The race course is approximately 1345 meters long, and the estimated top times will be in the 3:30 range.
The Central Alberta Bike Club ( http://users.rttinc.com/~tecnos/cycling) along with Canyon Ski Hill (http://www.ski-guide.com/overview.cfm/ab02.htm) and Redbike (http://www.redbike.ca) present GRAVITY CHALLENGE I, May 16th, 17th and 18th, 2003.


1) This will be an ABA (www.albertabicycle.ab.ca/) sanctioned race, this means you will need a license (and one other piece of photo ID). You have a few options this year,

a) if you are part of a club for you can get a full DH/DL license for $60

b) if you are not part of an ABA affiliated club (join one!!) you will need to pay the ABA an additional $45 for insurance. When you join a club affiliated with ABA they pay this from their club fees.

c) The ABA is offering a two event license this year for DH/DL riders. This license is for riders interested in trying out the sport to see if they like it. You can get this for $25.00 and you can race two events this year with this license. If you are a club member a single event license is available for $10. Max two single event licenses per race year.

d) Any current UCI license will be accepted for this race. (with one other piece of photo ID)


2) Racing categories will be based on participants. 5 or more per category at the organizers discretion. CCA categories as outlined at www.albertabicycle.ab.ca/


3) Event Schedule: (subject to change)
Friday: Registration 4 pm to 8 pm at Canyon Ski Area
Walking Inspection 4 pm to 8 pm

Saturday: Registration 9 am to 3 pm
Training Runs 10 am to 5 pm. Lift ticket required ($10)
Team Managers Meeting 5:30 pm

Sunday: NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION Mandatory Pre-ride 9 am to 11 am. Lift ticket provided.
All racers must complete one training run to compete.
COURSE CLOSED
Racing starts at 12 noon. Start times posted at the lodge.
Two run best time format. Awards to follow.


4) RULES AND REGULATIONS

a) All riders must wear a helmet (Full face recommended)

b) All riders must display their number plate at all times.

c) No training after 11am Sunday, course closed for pre-race inspection.

d) Transportation to the top via the Triple chair at the lodge,

e) Riders must finish with their bike and their number plate.

f) Riders to cross finish line and exit the finish area immediately.

g) Riders will be disqualified for leaving the marked course and or excepting outside help.
