Hemlock Mountain Offers Lift Access Biking – Get Out There – Agassiz B.C.

Lift access mountain biking is incredibly popular, no doubt about it. Thousands of riders make the two-hour journey to Whistler from B.C.’s Lower Mainland every year to hit the summer slopes. Hopefully soon we'll have another option, this June 21st and 22nd
Hemlock Valley Resort is offering riders a trial run at lift access to rip it up on specially prepared trails. If the weekend goes off big, the mountain and lifts may be opened up for full season biking in the near future. That’s where you come in; in order for Hemlock to make the commitment toward a full season they need proof of numbers, obviously there has to be enough traffic throughout the season to cover the cost of running the hill. Other than Whistler and Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops, there aren’t any options for this type of riding; this is a great opportunity for riders in the Lower Mainland and our neighbours just across the 49th parallel to have a lift accessed hill near home.

Summer Solstice Mountain Biking, as the weekend has been dubbed – no doubt due to the date, has plenty of activity in store. The Sasquatch chair lift will be open from 10am to 4pm so that you gain access to the 1300 true vertical feet of mountain and ride any of the experienced skill level downhill or the all level cross-country trails that are set up for the event.

Once you get down you can rest your legs and cool down with a frosty one at Molly Hogan’s, and for those not quite old enough or inclined for the suds, a barbecue will be set up on the patio featuring smokies, burgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, salads and soup. The lodge will be open and all the usual high altitude sunny day necessities will be available, including sunscreen and film as well as tubes should you manage to poke a hole in one. Outside the lodge there will be music and draw prizes.

Lift tickets are a very reasonable $15 for a full day or $7 for a single ride pass if you just want to try out the mountain. For out of town visitors, there’s ride in/out camping available for $5 a night, and for those that desire more civilized accommodation, the nearby picturesque town of
Harrison Hot Springs on Harrison Lake has all types of motels and hotels, right up to the first class
Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa.

If the interest is there, Hemlock Valley Resort is looking forward to developing the mountain into a full time venue, and they are taking an active approach that involves rider input. While you’re up at the event take the time to fill out a quick questionnaire that they will have for you, it’ll help provide information as to what riders want to see in their mountain bike park.

So tune up your ride and get out to Hemlock Valley Resort this June 21st and 22nd and show your support.
