Introducing - The Mallet - from Crank Brothers

In an effort to gain a few precious seconds on the race course, I'm running an old, well worn pair of Shimano 636 clipless pedals. It's not that I haven't tried other offerings, it's just that they either don't perform as well, or fall apart prematurely. From Crank Brothers, the folks who brought us the Eggbeater, comes the Mallet, which looks like a very promising alternative for the clipless riders out there.

At the heart (or center) of the pedal is a fully-rotating, 4-sided entry "eggbeater" surrounded by a large conventional aluminum platform. Mud clearance should be second to none, and the platform looks just grippy enough for those times you're not quite clipped in. Weight is projected at 540 grams per pair and pricing is set at $100 US. Christina from Crank Brothers promises the new pedals will be available in better bike shops on August 1st.
