CANADA CUP COMING TO FERNIE AGAIN THIS SUMMER

FERNIE ALPINE RESORT, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Fernie Alpine Resort, located in southeastern B.C., is looking forward to once again hosting the Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series with Cross Country and Downhill events. The race series stops in Fernie July 26 & 27, 2003. This is the third year that Fernie Alpine Resort has hosted a stop on this series.The Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series represents the highest caliber of cycling competition in Canada with seven venues across the country. The Canadian Cycling Association, which began in 1882 as the Canadian Wheelman's Association and is now Canada's oldest sport and active living governing bodies, founded the Canada Cup Series which consists of five cross country and five downhill events. A national ranking is maintained for all Canada Cup championship categories, in Cross-country and Downhill disciplines and the standings are used as one of the selection tools for members of the Canadian National Team.

Fernie Alpine Resort events begin Saturday, July 26 at 8:00 am with the Pinkbike.com Cross Country Race. Awards will occur in the afternoon followed by The Guides Hut Fat Tire Crit in downtown Fernie that evening. On Sunday, July 27 the Rip 'n Richard's Downhill Race will start at 11:00 am. Awards for these races will be presented at the end of the event.
