After working long with plenty of overtime to get the first G-Boxx prototype bicycle out the door and ready for EuroBike 2003, we are proud to say that G-Boxx was met with high praises and a solid future outlook for this internal transmission mounting standard, pioneered by two well respected mountain bike companies, Nicolai and E13 Components / Evil bikes. Danny Kaey, responsible for Nicolai-USA, had this to say about this innovative standard: “Upon meeting Dave Weagle at InterBike 2001, where we premiered our Nucleon DH, it was clear to me that both Dave and Karl where following the same dream – to develop a gearbox based drivetrain for mountain bikes. I felt it was my obligation to introduce both to each other to work on this project together. The sheer complexity and the engineering issues that needed to be resolved can only be achieved through cooperative work”. The G-Boxx mounting standard, which is at the moment based on adopting a Rohloff multi-speed hub, allows for great flexibility for mounting the system as well as allowing for the widest possible range of future gearbox designs to be implemented. In the not too distant future, we can very well expect two, possibly even three gearbox manufacturers enter the arena and supply G-Boxx based bicycles with their transmissions.

To complement the full suspension design of Nicolai’s G-Boxx prototype bike and to further demonstrate this standards amazing flexibility, Dave Weagle will be showing off his prototype Evil G-Boxx hardtail across the isle from the Nicolai booth at InterBike 2003.

Please come by the E13/Evil and Nicolai booths at InterBike, October 10-14, for further information. www.g-boxx.org is currently online and will be fully accessible shortly.
