Jib Jam

Jun 7, 2004
by Karl Burkat
Many Pro riders were disappointed when they found out there wasn’t going to be a Freezride this year, but thanks to Snowbird Mountain Resort, Lizard Skins, Invictus Productions, and Red Bull (Salt Lake City), an event called the Bike Board Jib Jam gave them the opportunity to compete on the snow. The course consisted of a table/fun box jump, two huge doubles, a rainbow box and wallride/wedge box.
The list of competitors included Cameron McCaul, Kyle Ebbett, Von Williams, Jim DeChamp, Chris Stewart, Grant Breshears, Jim Severt, Brian Malkames and Eric Porter.
Eric Porter took home top honors and $1,500 with several sick moves including a pegless fifty-fifty grind on the rainbow box and a wallride to bar-spin out. Grant Breshears back flipped the biggest double and walked away with $1,000 and second place, not bad for his first competition. And local favorite Von Williams grabbed third place and $500 with a hipped out tailwhip.
Footage from the Bike Board Jib Jam will be included in the forthcoming Invictus Productions release Jib 2, directed by Thor Wixom. Jib 2 will be released in the Fall at Interbike 2004.
Special thanks to the Snowbird personnel who made the Jib Jam happen; Misty Clark for promoting the Jib Jam, John Collins for taking care of logistics, and Ryan Shugart for building the course. Special thanks also to the sponsors; Mike Romeril at Red Bull (Salt Lake City), and Brian Fruit at Lizard Skins.
