The Mad Trapper BC Cup Mountain Bike Race is set to go off at Panorama on Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27.
Panorama's BC Cup line-up features cross-country, downhill and 4-cross events. The diversity of the terrain and the calibre of the athletes make this one of the hottest adventure events taking place at Panorama this summer and cash prizes will make the action even hotter. The cross-country course will have racers using every gear on their bike while they negotiate the scenic and challenging course. The downhill course combines technical single track and a consistently steep fall-line for a gravity-fed adrenalin rush that doesn't let up until the racer crosses the finish line.
A favourite event for spectators is sure to be the 4-cross. Four riders race head to head over a dirt course made of berms and tabletops. The course is a permanent feature at Panorama and allows for a pro-qualifying race time of 30-40 seconds, which is well suited for the BC Cup.
A facelift on Panorama's existing permanent Bikercross course has yielded amazing improvements just in time for the Mad Trapper BC Cup Mountain Bike Race on June 26-27.
"The course is ready for the BC Cup Race and riders are going to find it more fair when riding head to head in competition," says Brad Brush, Panorama's Director of Mountain Operations.
Eighty tons of silt taken from the Columbia River was used to reshape the course and build 12 new features including bigger, improved berms, off-camber corners and tabletops with smooth transitions. The silt contains clay that makes it easy to pack and shape.
"We built the course in 2003 and had last summer to see where the problems were and to hear feedback from the riders. We are committed to evolving and improving the course," says Brush. Another improvement for BC Cup racers is a large berm at the bottom of Insanity, the trail used for the downhill course.
"We are poised to deliver a first class BC Cup event for participants, support crew and spectators," says race organizer Steve Janzen. "The exceptional terrain, facilities such as the Panorama Springs Pools and accommodation options to fit every budget make Panorama a great venue for big races like this."
