With another World Championships in the bag, there are now 4 new gravity riders who will don the rainbow jerseys for 2005. In front of an estimated 25,000 screaming fans, cheerleaders, flame jugglers and pyrotechnics, it was Eric Carter crossing the finish line in front of Mickael Deldycke, last year's world champion Michal Prokop and Swiss rider Rinderknecht. It was Carter's first World Championship in the 4X.
His best Championship finishes to date were a 2nd in 2003 and 3rd the year previous. On the women's side, it was former BMX World Champion, but as yet a 4X unknown, Jana Horakova who bested 4X veterans Jill Kintner, Tara Llanes and Sari Jorgensen in the final. Katrina Miller, considered by many to be the favorite after Anne-Caroline's shoulder injury, was ousted in the earlier rounds after hitting a gate mid course. She settled for a 5th place finish.
