After a successful summer bringing some ladies out of the DH mountain biking closet, one chick in particular has upped the anti with a short but sweet part in Digger’s next North Shore Extreme installment….Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Cindy Hollies has recently made the move to B.C.’s North Shore and rides virtually non-stop trying to feed her addiction. From starting out as most ladies do – shy and watching the guys ride from the sidelines in this male dominated sport - Cindy is now at the forefront of the West Coast dirt jumping scene and has appropriately adopted the handle ‘Cin Bad’. She is now the only lady on the John Henry Jump Team looking to tour across Canada next summer and to make a real name for herself.
Recently, I got a chance to catch up with Cindy and got the low-down on her plans, her sport, sponsors and her favorite food? Well, here’s some info on a hot new rider on the scene:
Name: Cindy Hollies (Cin Bad)
Age: 19 on the 27th
Currently living: North Vancouver, B.C.
How long have you been riding?I’ve been in the biking industry for at least three years now but never really had a chance to put my full life into it until now. Whether it be school, work, BF’s.. I just couldn’t get out and ride more then once a month and when I did, I was super shy and didn’t wanna’ do anything around the guys, so I would just sit and watch half the time. So this spring, I bought a used RM7 frame, built it up, and for some reason I just couldn’t get off that bike, ha ha, I was obsessed. From that point on I put my whole life toward biking. I even quit my job and moved out to North Van just to ride my bike. I just can’t get enough.
How is life within a male dominated sport? Most girls make a big deal about this subject, but to tell the truth, at least for me, I really don’t notice. In fact I get really pissed off when guys treat me like a girl. It drives me insane when they see me dirt jump and there like ”wholy s***, that’s a girl”. Yes, even girls are starting to do it. I just wanna push myself just as hard as the guys and I hate getting special treatment. I just ride my bike for fun just like every other guy out there. As far as I’m concerned, when I’m on my bike, I’m one of the guys.
What is the John Henry Jump team? Well, we are a team of mountain bikers who go to events all over B.C. and Alberta. We are working on going across Canada. We do jump and trials demos. We have tons of fun and put on a show usually with music from DJ’s or live bands. It’s pretty sweet; its such a cool feeling to be riding for a crowd that’s watching you do something you love so much, and hey, riding with a band playing gets you pretty stoked to do just about anything. The other team riders are Marc Stokes, Graydon Bezanson and Jonathon Cote - all amazing riders.
What is your involvement in the team? I work my butt off for the team, it’s not just all about riding. I’m working at least 4-7 hours a day mostly just looking for sponsors to support us, but it really is worth it in the end. I treat the team like a second job.
The John Henry Jump Team Rippen it up for the Coho Festival. What’s your favorite kind of biking?I don’t have a favorite type of riding; I really do love it all. If I have to pick one, I would say dirt jumping. That’s what I’m best at.
Who are your sponsors?I recently got sponsored by The John Henry Jump Team: www.johnhenryjumpteam.com. Some of our sponsors are Hoots, John Henry and .243. I don’t have any personal sponsors aside from the team yet but I am looking.

www.johnhenryjumpteam.comEven thought it's a small part in NSX 8, what's it like knowing you're in this movie? It's so sweet! But I see this only as a beginning and have a lot of new tricks to try for next season.
Do you hope to do more riding in movies?Hell yeah...
Next seasons goals?Something I’m really looking forward to is the John Henry team. We are planning to tour across Canada next summer to some huge events so I’m going to be very busy with that, and I know it’s really going to help my riding skills and tricks. I would really like to do some racing, either DH or 4X if I have time between shows.
What makes you passionate about riding? All the hot guys riding bikes, ha ha, just kidding. But that is a definite bonus! For real it’s all about certain moments while you’re riding, like after you have been trying for weeks to land this one trick and you finally get it. Or if you’re hitting a huge line that you have never hit before and you clean it. It’s the most amazing feeling in the world and nothing can compare; air is addicting.
Do you think you have an influence on other girl riders? For sure I do. I think any girl that gets her butt on her bike everyday is an influence. I have seen so many girls get all stoked on riding and then on their first big crash, they break an arm or get a concussion and they quit. If you get back on your bike everyday, no matter what happens, you’re an amazing inspiration to other girls out there. At least that’s what I believe.
Favorite food?Can beer be accepted
