From Rocky Mtn Bike N’ Board Racing Club
After much deliberation and consultation with our club members, sponsors, Alberta Sustainable Resources, MD of Clearwater, and the Alberta Bicycle Association we have decided to postpone the Return of the Fury III Revenge of Double Baseline to probably the first weekend of September 05.We did not arrive at this decision lightly as we have considered the impact on the riders who want to race and have been supportive, our sponsors, a film crew from Ride Guide waiting to film the event and our valuable club members and volunteers.
The simple fact remains that the Mother Nature has not cooperated at all with our pre race course preparations. It has been raining here every day in June. When the once in 300 year flood occurred in the Prairie Creek valley it took out 2 of the four bridges along 752. This did not allow us any access to the race site until this weekend. Upon inspection we have lots of deadfall to deal with and two of our XC course bridges need rebuilding. The long range forecast for our area is rain until this Thursday July 7th the day before we had rescheduled the race to. There has also been a serious lack of pre-registered riders to date.
To those ten riders that have pre-registered we thank you for your kind support and we will process full refunds tomorrow.
Our club has never backed down from any challenges in the past that events and Mother Nature have dealt us. From putting together an ABA Provincial DH & XC Championships in two weeks after another club cancelled last minute to the snow storm at the 98 Canada Cup and the flooding in the region during the 99 Canada Cup we have taken it in stride. However the recent developments delivered by Mother Nature have given us no choice but to step back and regroup to fight another day.
We will be back bigger and better so keep posted. Thanks for your support in the past and we look forward to seeing you here in September.
