Mont-Sainte Anne World Cup DH Results

Steve Peat and Anne-Caroline Chausson won the third round of the World Cup downhill series in Mont-Sainte Anne, Quebec. Peat's win puts him just 23 points behind men's DH leader Chris Kovaric, while Chausson takes the women leader's jersey from Sabrina Jonnier. Peat said of the win, "This is such a tough course. It is so physically demanding it just beats you up. I arrived on Wednesday night so I only did a few practice runs trying to save my energy. After two runs I had blisters on my hands. The race itself was just so long. Some of the berms were blown out which was very difficult. I really had to dig deep in the flat section after the ramp in the woods. It hurt so much. It makes the win very satisfying."

Cedric Gracia's second place finish combined with Anne-Caro's impressive record held Volvo-Cannondale's lead in the team standings. Reigning points champion, Greg Minnaar seemed happy to be back on the podium after 2 disappointing World Cup finishes this season.

Bad luck continued for Missy Giove who despite taking the past 2
weeks off to try and begin her recovery from the ruptured MCL, found the
demanding 6 minute course too taxing. “My knee is no where near ready for
racing but I gave it my all. In the top third of the course I was on race
winning pace, but by half way the sheer pain and effort to keep the bike
upright through the tough wood sections was too much and I lost control and
the bike went way off course, down a ditch. I lost way too much time but
kept going to the finish,” said Missy who was clearly in pain after the
race. In fact Missy’s time for the 2nd half of the course was only 1.5
seconds off eventual race winner Anne-Caroline Chausson, despite the
difficulties. Missy still holds onto her 7th overall in the World Cup, but
finished 12th today.

Nicolas Vouilloz will miss the North American World Cup stops to rehabilitate his injured hand and prepare for the World Championships in Kaprun in late August.

Due to Grouse Mountain's cancellation, the World Cup gets under way again in Telluride, Colorado in two weeks, although many World Cuppers have confirmed they will be attending the Joyride Bikercross next week in Whistler BC.
