New Mountain Cycle ShockWave 9point5

Mountain Cycle is proud to announce the arrival of a new model to be unveiled at EuroBike and Interbike this year, the ShockWave 9point5. The frameset is a dedicated downhill machine and is the company’s new premier offering for those who want to push the limits on steep and nasty terrain.

Positive changes have been abundant at Mountain Cycle since the company formed a partnership with high-end frame maker, Kinesis USA, Inc. in late 2001. One thing that has not changed is the mad scientist-like focus the team has for creating some of the most advanced, hard-core bicycle frames on the planet. The ShockWave 9point5 is a prime example of this focus and attention to detail.

As the name suggests, travel is an ultra smooth 9.5 inches. Quality progressive rate travel is accomplished by utilizing a stiff monocoque cantilever beam swingarm along with suspension-rate-manipulating-linkage similar to the Reactive Link found on the original ShockWave. This system gives the 9point5 a supple and responsive initial linear rate that changes to a very progressive rate at the upper end of the travel to give the suspension a bottomless feel. Travel is kept smooth and virtually maintenance free as high performance sealed cartridge bearings are used throughout. To give riders the ability to further tune the suspension, Mountain Cycle is stocking the much sought after Progressive 5th Element to dial in the bike for any rider on any course.

The ShockWave 9point5 was developed with state-of-the-art CAD/CAM engineering software, SolidWorks and MasterCam, to create both the solid ride and outstanding appearance all Mountain Cycle frames are known for. The full monocoque frame will be available in 3 sizes and has optional dropouts for both thru axle and quick release rear wheels. Also included is the famous adjustable steerer stop to protect frame and fork in the event of a crash. As if that’s not enough, a floating disc brake mount is planned for release as an available option in spring of 2003.

The ShockWave 9point5 is one of 3 new models that are in the works, in addition to an improved San Andreas, at Mountain Cycle’s new location in Portland, Oregon. The original ShockWave will still be produced and is intended for both the hard core free ride and downhill market. Stay tuned for another press release soon that will detail the 2003 Mountain Cycle line. With the new company alliance, expect to see many more Mountain Cycles than ever before on the race courses and trails near you. Ride Hard, Ride Fast, Ride Mountain Cycle…
