The anticipation had been building for months as the dig crew at Bolehills in Sheffield created a whole new pack of jumps for the community to ride. On the 11th May, the track opened to the public for the 2024 riding season.
Bolehills is a one-of-a-kind spot. Not quite trails, not quite a BMX track - somewhere in-between, where riders of all ages can get involved with the digging and the riding. There truly is something for everyone.
A new 1st straight had been hand barrowed and shaped with over 200 tonnes of dirt moved in 8 weeks. It features a trails style pack of 4, and a set of 4 tabletop jumps for riders looking to learn how to get airtime. There was a pretty much 50/50 split of riders doing each of the lines, a testament to the success of the creation, as well as a huge queue to ride all day!
The opening jam for this year was the biggest ever, raising over £3500 to keep the spot going for 2024. There was a range of competitions and jams, including a high jump contest with a newly created bar. Hardline Winner (and regular dig crew member) Craig Evans took the spoils, with Calibre Rider Harry Gasgoyne and George Slater a close 2nd. Airing 13ft out of a 6ft lip is very impressive to watch.
There was a load of BMX riders came along from the local parks too, with Joe Ferguson back from retirement dropping everyone's jaws with a 360 double tailwhip. It's great to see the pro riders turning up, to inspire the next generation of riders.
We also had some great prizes thanks to Propain Bikes for giving away a Trickshot DJ Frame to our rider of the day Clay Gibson. Local company Airdrop kindly gave a set of Airdrop Bank Wheels to raffle off too. Fiveten UK and The Bikes College were also along in support, and PREAM Pizzas keeping hungry riders fed all day.
As always, the session was closed down by trains into the sunset along the back set. Keep eyes on our socials for a few more events and evening sessions this year.
The track is now fully open and free for anyone to ride.
